Painting With King's Cottage

We’re always trying to do new things at King’s Cottage Bed & Breakfast, and the month of August is no exception. From free art instructions at our location to new attractions from our favorite businesses, there is never a shortage of entertainment when you stay with us.

On August 9 we will be inviting guests to receive free art instructions from Tom F. Hermansader, who has been painting Lancaster County’s most noted landmarks for more than four decades. The class will take place from 12 PM to 2 PM and will be limited to 30 people. Guests are encouraged to bring art supplies, a chair or easel, and their portfolio for Tom to critique.

Tom F. Hermansader is prolific with his work in the state of Pennsylvania. He has captured Lancaster City, Lancaster County, and more than 100 other locations throughout the state with his realistic style. His art can be viewed at hermansadersartgallery.com or at The Hermansader Victorian Mansion & Art Gallery, located at 420 Chestnut Street, Columbia, Pennsylvania.

One of our most recommended businesses, Strasburg Scooters, is also doing something unique from July 17 to August 28. They will be providing what they call Date Night in Amish Country, which is a slight variation of their standard covered bridge tour.

This tour, at only $78 per couple, is a scaled down version of their 5 star rated covered bridge tour. It includes a single seat, 50cc scooter which will take you and your date through the countryside, including Amish farms, school houses, and a 19th century covered bridge with an experienced guide. After the guided ride, each couple can continue their date at The Iron Horse Inn to enjoy complimentary “All You Can Eat Wings” courtesy of Strasburg Scooters.

Here at King’s Cottage Bed & Breakfast, we pride ourselves on making sure our guests experience the best that Lancaster County has to offer. Whether we offer an event at our location or send you to one of our favorite businesses, you can rest assured knowing that we will only recommend something that we have experienced and enjoyed ourselves. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Music Friday

Downtown Lancaster consistently offers unique and exciting experiences for those that love the arts, providing events like Music Friday which showcase one larger free concert, along with other acts at restaurants, businesses, and even on the street throughout the city. Every third Friday Lancaster becomes a city of music, and King’s Cottage Bed & Breakfast is the ideal location to experience that day and the weekend that follows.

This Music Friday is led by Shrimpboat, a soul, funk, and blues band formed in Columbia, PA in 2012. Shrimpboat has quickly made a name for themselves, attracting the attention of engineer Dave Natale, a man who previously worked with The Rolling Stones and Tina Turner. Shrimpboat will be playing at Binns Park on North Queen Street, but they are only one of many bands scheduled to perform on Friday.

Throughout downtown Lancaster music will be coming from many of the local businesses, and you’ll even get a chance to view a wide range of street performers. The Belvedere Inn, also on North Queen Street, has the Dave Wilson Trio performing from 7 PM to 10 PM. The Chameleon Club, a constant source of musical entertainment, has brought in Scott Stapp, former lead singer of Creed, to perform at 7 PM for Music Friday. The street acts are just as impressive, with One Man Band doing a street performance at 229 North Queen Street.

Music Friday isn’t only about the great talent of Lancaster County, but also a perfect ladies night out. BUiLDiNG CHARACTER, a marketplace on North Queen Street that has over 40 local shops under one roof, host Ladies Night Out every Music Friday. This Ladies Night Out features free desert samples and drinks, free hand-scrubs by Garden Party, and a free 5-minute chair massage by Jim Baldwin. A great night out is complimented by the potential to shop, with all 40 vendors open and selling clothing, handcrafted jewelry, handmade accessories, gifts, cards and art.

There is never a dull moment in Lancaster, with each weekend offering new and exciting experiences. To experience Lancaster at its very best, then we recommend staying with the very best in luxury and comfort at King’s Cottage Bed & Breakfast. We look forward to greeting you soon!

Theatre Fun in the Summer

Here at King’s Cottage Bed & Breakfast, we pride ourselves on ensuring a luxurious and entertaining stay for our guests. We handle the luxury with our elegant and romantic rooms, all of which feature fireplaces and three which also feature whirlpool tubs, but we also update our guests on all of the great events that Lancaster has to offer for premium entertainment.

One important aspect of Lancaster County is the theatre scene. Between the Fulton Theatre, Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre, Rainbow Dinner Theatre, and the American Music Theatre, there is always a great show that is only a short drive from King’s Cottage.

June 3 begins the Fulton’s run of “Les Misérables.” Showing from June 3 to July 13, Les Misérables follows Jean Valjean, a French peasant in 19th-century France, and his quest for redemption after serving nineteen years in jail for stealing a loaf of bread for his starving sister’s child.

The Fulton Theatre previously staged “Les Misérables” in 2009, which they describe as “an unqualified hit with audiences, and for good reason.” This staging of “Les Misérables” will close out their 2013/2014 season, so expect tickets to sell fast as the Fulton closes this season with an immensely popular musical. As always, King’s Cottage offers special pricing on tickets for the Fulton Theatre when you stay with us. We’ll save you the hassle of trying to purchase tickets so you can enjoy a stress-free stay.

Of course, if “Les Misérables” is a bit too dramatic for your trip to Lancaster County, there are always hilarious plays at the Rainbow Dinner Theatre. “Always A Bridesmaid” will be showing through August 9 and follows four young women who vow that they will all attend each others’ weddings. Once middle-aged, they realize that they keep repeating their roles over and over again.

The Rainbow Dinner Theatre is also known for great food as well as plays. Their current menu features Beef Tenderloin Eye Round, Glazed Teriyaki Sesame Tilapia, Cheese Tortellini with Cherry Tomatoes in a Pesto Sauce, plus many other options that are sure to complete a great night out at the theatre.

With a new series of shows opening in Lancaster County, now is the perfect time to book a stay with King’s Cottage and allow us to provide you with discounted tickets and a luxurious stay that you won’t soon forget. We look forward to seeing you soon!

The Demuth Garden Tour

Lancaster County offers a variety of unique and interesting activities throughout the year, but now that the beautiful weather is here to stay, many activities exclusive to Spring and Summer are now open for guests. Here at King’s Cottage Bed & Breakfast we provide luxury accommodations all year, and especially during these peak months in Lancaster County.

One such activity is the 31st Annual Demuth Garden Tour & Garden Party. The tour, hosted on June 14 from 10 AM to 5 PM and on June 15 from 11 AM to 5 PM, is provided as an annual fundraiser for Demuth Museum. The museum itself is located on 120 East King St, Lancaster, PA, which is the original home of Charles Demuth and his family. The objective of the museum is to develop an understanding and appreciation of Charles Demuth, his modernist paintings, and his family’s contributions to Lancaster.

As for the tour, you will be taken through exclusive Lancaster residences, viewing an assortment of creative urban gardens and unique home interiors. The tour will also cover the Demuth Garden and Conestoga House Gardens. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 on the day of the tour.

For an exciting evening leading up to the garden tour, do not forget to make a reservation for the Demuth Garden Party, hosted the night before the first tour on June 13. It will feature live music, a silent art auction, and an open bar on the grounds of Conestoga House and Gardens, located at 1608 Marietta Ave, Lancaster, PA.

Guests may also want to keep in mind that The Demuth Museum is only 1.4 miles from King’s Cottage, allowing guests to walk to the museum and enjoy a night out in the city after the tour without ever having to enter a vehicle.

The Demuth Garden Tour is an extremely exciting event in Lancaster County, as it gives guests access to significant pieces of history in downtown Lancaster. Each garden viewed on the tour is a masterwork of urban landscaping, and the home interiors are original, historic, and beautiful. As exciting as the tour itself is, keep in mind that demand will be, and already is, very high, so plan accordingly. We look forward to welcoming you to our little piece of history at King’s Cottage Bed & Breakfast, while you view the beauty that downtown Lancaster has to offer. Sampson will be waiting to greet you at the door!

These are two of the many adventures to be had in Lancaster County, and they showcase a side of Lancaster that is perfect for those wishing to experience new things. We at King’s Cottage have experienced Lancaster County for you, so we can send you in the right direction when you stay with us. Plus, is there really a better way to start a day of adventure than with our gourmet breakfast?

The history of the Amish, their farmlands, and the great history of Lancaster is known to many, but an equally important aspect of any trip to Lancaster is the city. Downtown Lancaster offers some of the best restaurants and entertainment in Pennsylvania. From upscale dining at restaurants like The Belvedere Inn to the plethora of microbreweries and wineries; there is a place to relax for everyone.

Downtown Lancaster is also known for its constantly evolving art and theatre scene. We also offer special theatre pricing when tickets are purchased with your stay.
